The church building was built in 1751 on the place where a wooden church had stood since 1700, but which fell into disrepair after 50 years. The last renovation took place in the years 2007 - 2009. Static safeguards were carried out, the heating system and the electrics were renewed and the side entrance was designed to be handicapped accessible. To give the church a new shine, it was freshly painted inside and out.

This Protestant church was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the saints calendar is September 29th.

The evangelical Michaelskirche was probably built as a wooden church at the beginning of the 18th century, but it was dilapidated by 1750 and was replaced in 1751 by a new stone building with a north-east tower and south-west chancel. Since 1964 the church has borne the name Michaelskirche, in reference to the medieval Michaelskapelle below the castle.
