Castelsardo Castle dominates the Gulf of Asinara from a rocky promontory and marks the origin of the medieval town. It was built by the Genoese Doria family between the 12th and 13th centuries as a strategic fortress to control the maritime routes of northern Sardinia. Over the centuries, it passed into the hands of the Crown of Aragon and today houses the interesting Museum of Mediterranean Braiding. From its walls, you can enjoy some of the most spectacular panoramic views on the island.
