The footpath and cycle path on the Letten viaduct is used frequently. The civil engineering department has extended the footpath and cycle path in coordination with the arch extensions. There are entrances and exits to all roads that cross the viaduct.

Former railway bridge of the Zürich - Meilen - Rapperswil railway line. Built in 1891-94. Now used as popular footbridge.

The permeability of the viaducts enabled the city's expansion toward Bern from 1894 onwards: Zurich West was born! From 1990 onwards, the lower viaduct developed into a popular pedestrian route between the Letten-Areal and Josefswiese. In a few years, a continuation of the viaduct will be built over the railway tracks, creating a pedestrian connection between districts 4 and 5.
