Cycling

The South-North Channel is the longest channel of the left-arm canal system at around 46 km. It branches off at Nordhorn from the Ems-Vechte Canal and flows into Rütenbrock in the Haren-Rütenbrock Canal. The shipping traffic was stopped already in the mid sixties. You can cycle the canal well along the whole length. In particular, the gate from Nordhorn to Georgsdorf is far from the traffic particularly relaxed to drive. Of the original seven locks, lock I in Nordhorn and lock V in Hebelermeer are best preserved.
