Built in 1861 by Napoleon III, the fort of Mindin was initially used for military defense. Strategically positioned at the mouth of the river to the ocean, Fort Mindin was used by the Germans during World War II.
The town of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins bought the fort, restored it and it now houses the Marine Museum.
