The CAI 838: Monte Festa Fortress Trail offers a challenging hike through varied landscapes, from dense woods to open alpine meadows. As you ascend, you will gain 2457 feet (749 metres) in elevation, leading to panoramic views of Lake Cavazzo and the surrounding valleys. This difficult route covers 5.3 miles (8.5 km) and typically takes around 4 hours and 4 minutes to complete. You will experience a demanding journey, exploring the natural beauty of the Carnic Prealps.
This difficult trail requires good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy hiking shoes. Some sections may be technical or hazardous, potentially requiring specialist equipment, so be prepared. It is not recommended during summer months due to lower altitude and high sun exposure, which can make conditions uncomfortable. Parking is generally available in Interneppo, which serves as the starting point for this historic route.
