This road cycling loop offers a fantastic journey through history and nature, primarily following the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail within Cuyahoga Valley National Park. You'll pedal alongside the scenic Cuyahoga River, passing through diverse landscapes of forests and wetlands, with the surface varying from paved paths to hard-packed crushed limestone. The route provides a unique blend of natural beauty and historical remnants, making for a truly engaging ride.

Starting from the NorthCoast Express Park & Ride, this moderate 41.2-mile (66.3 km) route involves 867 feet (264 metres) of elevation gain and typically takes about 4 hours and 27 minutes. While the Towpath Trail is largely flat, expect a few gentle grades, especially near bridges. Be prepared for potentially muddy sections if it has rained recently, particularly on the crushed limestone and dirt parts of the trail.

The loop is rich in historical significance, tracing the path of the 19th-century Ohio & Erie Canal and passing preserved locks like Lock 39, where mules once towed canal boats. A major landmark is the Brecksville-Northfield Bridge, an impressive concrete arch structure offering expansive views over the river. This multi-use trail is a great option for cyclists who enjoy a blend of historical exploration and natural scenery without overly challenging climbs.
