In the 19th century, chibottes or tsabones were temporary or seasonal dwellings in fields and vineyards. Thus the inhabitants of Puy-en-Velay who owned a vineyard in Vals-près-le-Puy, generally had a chibotte there which they occupied on Sundays and during the summer, according to a pattern encountered in many regions of the South.
