On the harbor side you cannot drive directly on the canal, but you can either drive directly at the harbor on a well-paved cycle path or change sides before or after the harbor. If you want to drive along the canal in the direction of Wolfsburg, you have to drive on the harbor side, as you can change sides in Sandkamp, but you cannot get directly to the south side of the canal there.
