In IX on a high embankment on the Vistula, a fortified castle with a brick church was built, defending Mazovia against Lithuanian and Ruthenian invasions. In the twelfth century Czersk was the seat of the castellany - and from the 13th century in the capital seat of the Piast princes from the Mazovian line. After the death of Konrad Mazowiecki, the Czerskie Principality was established. The descendants of Prince Konrad are Siemowit I, Konrad II, Trojden, Siemowit III, and Konrad III, Rudy and Janusz I - they all wore the title of the prince of Czersk.
