On the other hand, the early mining use of this region can still be seen in the Zechengrund today. Today's Oberwiesenthal district was granted mining freedoms as Wyssenthal on March 19, 1527 by Duke George of Saxony for a period of six years after silver ore had been found in the upper mine area since 1525.
