Previously, there was said to have been a small chapel on the site of the church, which was demolished in 1680. The new church was inaugurated after just one year of construction. The baroque pulpit can be proven to date from 1774. The Freiberg miners who were employed in the construction of the Oberauer tunnel were allowed to use the church for prayer in 1837-39. As a thank you they donated a red altar curtain on which the Saxon coat of arms, the miner's salute "Glück auf" and the year 1838 are embroidered. (Source niederau.info/)
