The oasis has its history... For centuries, Steinerskirchen has been a place of contemplation, prayer and silence. The place is named after what appears to be the first stone church in the area; Irish monks may have been the builders as early as the 8th century. In all that time, the place was not populated much, but remained a parish. Places that have been left alone for centuries are rare and, especially in our time, precious. The pilgrimage church "St Michael and the Annunciation" is open during the day and is well attended.
