The Abbey of Prémontré, nestled west of Laon in the heart of a wooded and hilly environment, was founded in 1120 by Norbert of Xanten. Former mother abbey of the Order of Canons Regular of Prémontré, this historic site retains a peaceful atmosphere, away from the main roads.

Until the revolution of 1790, Wissignicourt had its church placed under the invocation of Saint-Rémi and a cemetery which surrounded it. Everything was at the end of Bourg d'Anizy on the road to Laon. Under the reign of terror, the revolutionaries declared it national property. It was sold and demolished. In the center of the village there was a small relief chapel, twelve meters long and six meters wide, which was used for the special needs of the week. It was preserved and became the parish church of Wissignicourt in 1802. (https://www.fondation-patrimoine.org)

Until the revolution of 1790, Wissignicourt had its church placed under the invocation of Saint-Rémi and a cemetery which surrounded it. It was all at the end of Bourg d'Anizy on the road to Laon. Under the reign of terror, the revolutionaries declared it national property. It was sold and demolished. There was in the center of the village a small relief chapel twelve meters long and six meters wide, which was used for the special needs of the week. It was preserved and became the parish church of Wissignicourt in 1802. For a long time, the budget of the commune did not allow to maintain it. In 1852 the chapel threatened to fall into ruin. They thought of building a church. It was in 1859 that Mr. DEVIVAISE, Mayor of the Municipality and owner of the Ferme de Fontenille hamlet of Wissignicourt where he established his sugar factory, influenced his municipal council to decide on the construction of a church. The work started in the spring of 1859 was completed in May 1860. Since that time, Wissignicourt has had within its walls a church measuring 23 meters long and 12 meters wide, in place of the old chapel. It was destroyed during WW1 and rebuilt shortly thereafter with the aid of War damage. (https://www.fondation-patrimoine.org)
