In the old town of Saxony's state capital, one architectural masterpiece follows another: Zwinger, Semperoper, Brühlsche Terrasse and the Frauenkirche, rebuilt not too long ago. In the middle rises the Dresden Residenzschloss, the ancestral seat of the Albertiners, who ruled Saxony until the end of the First World War. Visiting this impressive complex today, it is hard to imagine that the individual wings of the castle stood as ruins reaching for the sky for more than forty years. The bombing raids on Dresden in February 1945 destroyed this masterpiece almost completely, and during GDR times, the political will for reconstruction was lacking for a long time. Only after reunification did a comprehensive reconstruction begin, making the Residenzschloss a jewel once again.

The Brühlsche Terrasse is a famous riverside promenade in Dresden's Old Town, located directly above the Elbe River. It is often referred to as the "Balcony of Europe" because it offers a sweeping view over the river and Dresden's historic skyline. Originally, it was part of the fortifications, but it was redesigned into a representative terrace in the 18th century. Today, it is a central walking and viewing spot with many nearby attractions, including the Neumarkt, the Frauenkirche, and various monuments and sculptures.

The view across the Elbe is particularly beautiful, where the buildings stand out compactly and impressively against the river. The perspective is considered one of the classic photo spots in the city, especially at sunset or in the evening with lighting.
