It was dry yesterday. Too bad, I could have used some cool water to refill it.

Very beautiful natural path. You get directly to the Wasgauhütte.

The Gertrudiskapelle is located between Erlenbach and Busenberg. Considering that this beautiful chapel was already built around 1450, it is very well preserved. It is also beautiful to look at inside.

It has become quite quiet around the St. Gertraud Chapel between Erlenbach and Busenberg. Surrounded by forest, it lies in an idyllic meadow, barely 50 meters below the federal road leading to Bad Bergzabern. Mostly, it is only hikers and holidaymakers who take a short break at the small sanctuary on their way through the beautiful Wasgau landscape. It also fits that Saint Abbess Gertrude, to whom the chapel is dedicated, was revered in the Middle Ages as the patron saint of travelers. However, hardly anyone remembers that this place was a popular pilgrimage destination well into the last century: especially on St. Gertrude's Day (March 17), on the Feast of the Ascension, or on Trinity Sunday, the rural population from the Dahn Valley and nearby Alsace came here to ask for blessings for their work and their crops. For the saint, who in Merovingian times – in the 7th century – was the first abbess to lead the monastery of Nivelles near Brussels, is also considered the patron saint of gardeners.
