“I am very ill and I go to the cupboard. I get a glass and fill it with Moselle wine. Hmm, that tastes good: late harvest! I have recovered and want to read. I get something and read it from eight in the evening until midnight. A late harvest too...” (Heinz Erhardt, 1909 – 1979)

In addition to providing protection from troops from the Zeller Bachtal, the tower also served as a customs station. At one point it was also used as an official prison. The tower used to have corner towers and a steep roof, which are no longer preserved. In 1899, a gate was broken into the tower and has since served as the lower entrance to the cemetery. The unplastered, rectangular tower with a stream gate made of quarry stone was part of the medieval town fortifications. It served as protection against the troops from the stream valley, which is why it is also often called the "stream tower". The tower measures 22 meters with its six floors and ground floor. At the time it served as an official prison. In the 19th century, the two archways were created as a passage to the cemetery. Really creepy 😱. When my wife and I came by, the bones were gone but the ropes were still there. However, there are gravestones along the way. I would have died of fear here at night 😖
