Tips from the Community

R.Bungartz
July 16, 2023, Sauscheid Cross

The Sauscheid Cross was erected in 1914 by an unknown World War I participant who asked for a safe return from the First World War. After the almost 3 meter high cross made of solid oak wood had fallen victim to natural weathering over the decades and the location had been forgotten, the massive sandstone base was rediscovered in the undergrowth in 2014 with the help of a contemporary witness and a new one was built in the same place cross erected.
