Old/Roman Bridge 🌉 Tavira

Highlight • Bridge

Despite its name, the bridge itself is neither Roman nor has a Roman origin. It was built when Tavira belonged to al-Andalus (the Islamic Domain of Iberia), most probably in the 2nd half of the 12th century. Then, for a few decades Tavira was an independent commune, before being submitted to the Almohade Empire.
The bridge was a fundamental element of the medieval defence of Tavira and its associated main road, limited with towers in both sides. It had houses on it in the Middle Ages. By 1550 it had apparently a movable wooden floor which could be removed for security reasons. The old bridge collapsed in 1655, then completely rebuilt in its present form. tavira.algarvetouristguide.com/attractions/the-old-roman-bridge

Arco da Vila, Faro

Highlight • Monument

he "City Archway" or "The Gate to the Old Town" was erected at the beginning of the 19th century on a medieval entrance portal by order of Bishop D. Francisco Gomes de Avelar. The construction plan comes from the Italian architect Francisco Xavier Fabri.
In a niche above the portal you can see Saint Thomas Aquinas, who is said to have saved the city from the plague. The Italian Marble Statue is a representative example of Italian Neoclassicism in the Algarve.
Inside is the Islamic portal, which was part of the original Moorish city wall. Due to its well-preserved condition, it is one of the unique examples of Islamic architecture in Portugal.
With the »Arco do Repouso« and the »Porta Nova« there are two other entrances to the city.

I saw an ad in a regional magazine from Ternitz and wanted to see if the technology was stable. I was frustrated after a series of bad card games and actually wanted to quit the whole thing. But Hot Chilli Bells https://hotchilli-bells.pro/ offered me a fresh start at the machines. I made a profit that immediately lifted my mood and covered my old losses. I am very satisfied with the result today.

Tavira is a beautiful coastal town on Portugal's Algarve coast. It lies on the Gilão River, which flows into the sea via estuaries and lagoons in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Tavira Island boasts a long sandy beach and salt flats that attract flamingos, spoonbills, and other wading birds. The medieval Castelo de Tavira is located in the town center and offers panoramic views. The Church of Santa María do Castelo houses the tombs of seven knights killed by the Moors. The town has many charming restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops!

The collapsed bridge has now been repaired and is perfectly passable, even if Komoot still lists it as a construction site and does not allow routes to be planned. https://www.komoot.de/tour/1971581800?ref=atd
