A beautiful PTTK mountain shelter at an altitude of 850 meters above sea level, near the summit of Biskupia Kopa (hence its name, of course). The shelter was built here in 1923, but was later rebuilt. Everything is here: meals, accommodations (50 beds), a restaurant, and even the possibility of organizing discos (probably not for you today, right?). https://biskupiakopa.pl/

Beautiful tower at the top. Restored. You can go inside, but I recommend checking the website. You may be surprised, it is closed during the week (I was there in the winter

Yes, Moravskoslezský Kraj offers several easy mountaineering routes. For instance, the Emperor Franz Josef Observation Tower loop from Petrovice is a gentle 2.1-mile (3.3 km) trail that takes about an hour to complete, leading through varied terrain to an observation tower. Another accessible option is the Emperor Franz Josef Observation Tower – View from Biskupia Kopa loop from Petrovice, which is slightly longer at 3.3 miles (5.3 km) but still considered easy.
For experienced mountaineers seeking a challenge, the region's high peaks offer demanding ascents. The Praděd statue – Praděd Peak loop from Karlova Studánka is a difficult 11.1-mile (17.9 km) route to the highest peak in Moravia and Silesia. Another strenuous option is the U Veličků Hut – Lysá Hora Summit loop from Malenovice, a difficult 9.3-mile (14.9 km) path known for its significant elevation gain to the Lysá Hora summit.
Absolutely. Many of the mountaineering routes in Moravskoslezský Kraj are designed as loops, allowing you to start and end at the same point. Examples include the Lysá Hora Summit loop from Ostravice, a challenging 9.9-mile (16 km) route, and the moderate Radegast Statue loop from Trojanovice, which covers 7.2 miles (11.5 km).
The region is rich in natural beauty and landmarks. In the Jeseníky Mountains, you can explore the Praděd Summit and Observation Tower. In the Beskydy, the Lysá Hora Summit is a prominent feature. You might also encounter picturesque waterfalls like the Rešovské vodopády or the Bílá Opava educational trail, which features a path alongside beautiful waterfalls. The Smrk Summit is another notable peak.
Yes, several peaks in Moravskoslezský Kraj feature observation towers offering stunning panoramic views. You can find them on Lysá Hora, Praděd (the Praděd Summit and Observation Tower), Velký Javorník, and Wielka Czantoria. These towers provide excellent vantage points to appreciate the diverse landscapes of the Jeseníky and Beskydy mountains.
The best season for mountaineering in Moravskoslezský Kraj is typically from late spring to early autumn (May to October). During these months, the weather is generally milder, trails are clear of snow, and the natural scenery is vibrant. While winter offers opportunities for skiing and snowshoeing, traditional mountaineering is best enjoyed outside of the snowy season.
While many routes in the Beskydy can be challenging, some sections or shorter loops can be suitable for families, especially those with older children or a good level of fitness. For a moderate option, consider the Malchor – Chata Emil Zátopek - Maraton loop from Krásná, which is 6.7 miles (10.8 km) long and offers varied terrain without extreme difficulty.
Generally, dogs are welcome on most mountaineering trails in Moravskoslezský Kraj, especially if kept on a leash. However, it's always advisable to check specific regulations for protected landscape areas (like CHKO Beskydy) or national parks, as some sensitive areas might have restrictions. Always ensure your dog is well-behaved and that you clean up after them.
The duration of mountaineering routes in the Beskydy Mountains varies significantly based on distance, elevation gain, and your pace. For example, a challenging route like the Lysá Hora summit (1,324 m) loop from Krásná, which is 10.2 miles (16.5 km) with substantial elevation, can take over 5 hours. Moderate routes, such as the Chata Ráda loop from Řeka (10.7 miles / 17.3 km), might take around 5 hours.
The mountaineering routes in Moravskoslezský Kraj are highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.8 stars from over 160 reviews. Reviewers often praise the diverse terrain, from challenging summit ascents to more accessible paths, and the stunning natural beauty of the Jeseníky and Beskydy mountains, including extensive forests and panoramic viewpoints.
While popular peaks like Lysá Hora can attract many hikers, you can often find less crowded experiences by exploring routes to other significant peaks or in less frequented parts of the Beskydy. Consider trails around peaks like Travný or Ropice, or explore the extensive network of paths within the CHKO Beskydy, which offers many opportunities for solitude away from the main tourist hubs.
