Blijham: (Bienoam Gruunegs veur Blijham: Brijpinzen) a Groningen village in the municipality of Westerwolde. Originally strongly agricultural, but in the last decades of the twentieth century developed as a commuter town. The landscape forms Blijham the border of the small-scale Westerwolde, with winding rivers and small wooded areas on the one hand and the large-scale agricultural landscape of the drowned Reiderland and Oldambt. Blijham is located on an old horseshoe-shaped sand ridge that runs from this village via Wedde and Vriescheloo to Bellingwolde. The statue "De Landman": depicts both a farmer and a farm laborer. Blijham originated from agriculture. The statue was erected in August 2019. There were originally espaliered lime trees in this place, which were lucky and were moved to Blauwestad during the reconstruction of the village square. "De Landsman" is meant to represent a farmer planting potatoes. The client for the statue is the village council of Blijham.
