As you enter Hulst, you are immediately greeted by a special piece of heritage: the Reynaert monument at the Gentsepoort. This bronze statue of Reynaert the Fox, with the court of King Nobel in the background, brings the famous animal story to life. You see Reynaert in pilgrim's clothing, surrounded by recognizable figures such as the lion, the bear, the wolf, and other animals from the story. The city of Hulst itself also plays a role in the scene, with its historic towers in the background – a nod to the Hulst of the past. A surprising and symbolic place that you won't just walk past.

At the Gentsepoort is the Reynaert monument. It is a bronze cast statue of Reynaert the fox with a hard stone background showing the court of King Nobel. The statue was made by the Antwerp Dutchman Anton Damen and represents a court scene from the animal story. Reynaert the Fox stands in pilgrim's clothing in front of the court of King Nobel the lion. You can also recognize Belijn the ram, Cantecleer the rooster, Cuwaert the hare, Tibeert the tomcat, Bruun the bear and Isegrim the wolf. On the right is Tiecelijn the raven on the gallows and on the left in the background you can see the towers of Hulst. (You can clearly see what the tower of the St. Willibrordus Basilica looked like before the Second World War.) Source: https://www.inulst.nl/zien-en-doen/reynaert-de-vos

Children can climb on mushrooms, build huts and play with the water pump. While the children play, parents enjoy a break at one of the picnic tables.

The Clingse woods (also: Clingense woods) is a forest area between Hulst and Sint Jansteen. The area connects to the Steense forests and across the Belgian border to the Stropersbos. The area consists of deciduous forest and is freely accessible. Two walking routes have been set out. Since 2008, the area (which is a water extraction area of Evides) has been managed by the Het Zeeuwse Landschap Foundation. The Clingse Forests, together with the Wilde Landen, the Steense forests and the Schommeling, have formed the 'Water extraction forests' since 2020. The original forest consisted mainly of conifers, which thrived on this sandy soil until the Lettersetter struck in the 2010s. From 2021, the dead trees were replaced with a multitude of species, to reduce vulnerability to pests and diseases. (Wikipedia)
