You can often come to Berlin here, but you should plan 5 extra minutes to cross the tracks because the barrier closes 3 minutes before the train arrives.

Planning for the double-track expansion of the railway line between Lübbenau and Cottbus has already been completed. The state of Brandenburg provided funding for the various planning services. The federal government is financing the construction costs using funds from the Coal Regions Investment Act (InvKG). At the end of the extensive approval process, the Federal Railway Authority issued the planning approval decision (https://www.i2030.de/wichtiger-meilenstein-fuer-ausbau-luebbenau-cottbus/) in February 2025 – this is the formal building permit. This also includes requirements for protecting the environment and local residents. Thus, comprehensive nature and landscape conservation measures are being implemented concurrently with the expansion. Local residents will benefit from active and passive noise protection measures (including sound barriers). Following the approval process, the main construction work will be awarded and initial preparatory measures, such as vegetation management, cable rerouting, and the establishment of construction sites, will be implemented. The second track, including the second platform, is already in place at Vetschau station. More information is available at: https://www.i2030.de/suedost/.

The so-called "Görlitz Railway" (Berlin – Cottbus – Görlitz) began operations in 1867. Since the end of World War II in 1945, the Lübbenau – Cottbus section has been a single-track line. This poses a major obstacle to adapting services to the significantly increasing demand. Forecasts predict that passenger numbers on the "Görlitz Railway" will increase by 95 percent by 2030 compared to 2019. The i2030 project (https://www.i2030.de/) is advancing the double-track expansion of the 29-kilometer line between Lübbenau and Cottbus. This will significantly increase the capacity of the currently single-track line and make operations more stable. This will enable the introduction of a continuous hourly service throughout the day between Berlin and the university town of Cottbus. The Spreewald tourist region will also benefit from the improved connections. As part of the expansion work at Raddusch station, a second track will be laid and a second platform will be built on the new track. The new platform will be barrier-free. More information about the expansion project can be found at: https://www.i2030.de/suedost/.
