Tips from the Community

July 26, 2024, Loreto Chapel on Annaberg

This small Marian shrine does not have its name and patronage after one of the many people who are venerated as saints. LORETO is a place of pilgrimage in central Italy, Marche region. The place did not become famous because of apparitions of the Mother of God - like Lourdes in the French Pyrenees or Fatima in Portugal. Rather, a building is venerated there that is considered to be the house of Mary in Nazareth. According to legend, angels brought the house here from Israel - with a few stops along the way. The shrine can be found in the komoot system under the following link: => https://www.komoot.com/de-de/highlight/1580848

This is the Loreto chapel on the Annaberg

Unfortunately, it hasn't been open for decades. Inside gloomy and not maintained. More of a storage room for the masses held every year at the Bergfest, right next door at the free altar.

Behind the sacristy, a WWII shell is stuck in the outer wall, which hit the church when worshipers were praying inside. It didn't explode and was disarmed and left in the brickwork. Su-Ro was under heavy fire because of the steel mill.
