Former Augustinian Canonry of Rottenbuch Between 1074 and the secularization, one of the most important Augustinian Canonry monasteries in Bavaria. Even today, the former monastery buildings bear witness to a glorious past. The jewel in the crown is the venerable monastery church of the Birth of Mary, which, with its harmoniously interwoven Romanesque, Gothic and Rococo architectural styles, is one of the most beautiful places of worship in the Pfaffenwinkel. Founded in 1074 by Duke Welf I, Rottenbuch Monastery was a very important monastery for many centuries. Pastoral care was particularly important to the Augustinian Canons. From 1604 onwards, they entrusted the Hohen Peißenberg with it. Important students emerged from the monastery school, such as Rochus Dedler, the composer of the Oberammergau Passion Play. The former Maierhof, the gatehouse, the brewery, the pharmacy and many other buildings still stand today. Anyone who is interested in the monastery's past will find information boards on site that take visitors on an exciting and very informative journey through time along the monastery's circular path.

The monastery was dissolved in 1803 during the secularization and the monastery complex was sold. The monastery church and part of the monastery complex were preserved. The monastery library was largely moved to the Munich Residence, sold and a large part of it ended up in the paper mill. It is disputed who was responsible for the demolition of most of the monastery buildings. From 1804 to 1813 the monastery property belonged to the Swiss silk ribbon manufacturer Johann Rudolf Meyer from Aarau, then to his son of the same name, who sold it to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816.
