A beautiful barbecue area in Leustetten near Elfengrund with a small soccer field and table tennis table. Use must be registered with Ms. Meier-Wichmann (Tel.: +49 75 54 97 417). The barbecue area is located directly next to the Leustetten hiking car park. Since summer 2023, there have been various swings here in addition to the soccer field and table tennis table.

In the Frickingen district of Leustetten, a tanning mill dating back to 1835 has been preserved, and was converted into a tanning museum at the initiative of the local local history society. The tanning mill belonged to the Mantz tannery, which had been established here since the 18th century. The village stream, which once flowed freely through Leustetten, supplied the tanning mill and the tannery with the necessary water. Tanning was an important raw material for tanning. It was made from tree bark and provided the tannic acid used to treat and preserve animal hides. When the tannery was closed in the 1960s, the mill also ceased operations. Today's Tanning Museum displays typical leather production equipment, such as the fulling barrel, leather roller, grindstone, shearing beam, pushing table, and bark mill, which are powered by the tanning mill's large mill wheel. Volunteer operators are happy to operate these machines for visitors and expertly explain the various processes.

I love this path. In both directions. You can see the Alps or the Heiligenberg in the background. Specially in autumn or spring the view to the alps is magnificent.

Frickingen Apple Trail - Station 14 It wasn't a miller, but a tanner who practiced his craft in this mill. It was part of the former Mantz tannery. This is where the bark, the most important ingredient in tanning, was crushed. The historic Lohmühle (tannery mill) is now a museum where you can experience the tanning craft up close. The restored mill wheel is powered by water and operates the connected machinery. Visitors experience how water power is used to drive gears and transmissions, a bark mill, a fulling barrel, and a leather roller through a mill wheel. The expert management team of the Lohmühle Tannery Museum is happy to provide information about the mill and explain the tanning profession and leather production.
