The Spielberg Chapel was separated from the mother church of Haiterbach on November 12, 1490, with the consent of Duke Eberhard of Württemberg. It was under Württemberg feudal lordship. On May 28, 1491, the vicar general of the responsible diocese of Constance elevated the Spielberg Chapel to a parish church for the village of Spielberg. The independent parish of Spielberg was thus created.
