August 8, 2026, Church of St. Mary Magdalene (Kostel svaté Maří Magdalény)

The Church of St. Maria Magdalena (Kostel svaté Maří Magdalény) is one of the most significant baroque sights in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). It is located in the historic city center, directly above the Sprudel Colonnade and the famous Vřídlo spring. With its distinctive double-tower facade, it is a widely visible part of the cityscape and one of the most important historical buildings in the spa town. The current church was built in the 18th century according to the plans of the renowned Bohemian baroque architect Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. Construction began in 1733 on the site of an older Gothic church and was completed in 1737. The curved facade, the mighty towers, and the richly decorated interiors are typical features of Bohemian baroque. Inside, the church impresses with its artistic furnishings, including altars, sculptures, and other religious artworks. The magnificently designed main altar is particularly noteworthy. Beneath the church is a crypt with historical burial sites, which is also part of the building's history. Due to its central location, the Church of St. Maria Magdalena can be easily combined with a visit to the Sprudel Colonnade, the Vřídlo, and the other historical colonnades. Together with the thermal springs, the spa buildings, and the promenades, it is one of the characteristic sights of the historic center of Karlovy Vary.

The city center of Karlovy Vary, known as Karlsbad in German, is characterized by historical buildings, elegant colonnades, and the numerous thermal springs for which the city is world-renowned. Magnificent houses with ornate facades, hotels, cafés, and shops line the Teplá River. Particularly characteristic are the various colonnades where visitors can sample the famous Karlovy Vary mineral water. Among the most important sights in the city center are the Sprudel Colonnade with the Vřídlo, the most famous and strongest thermal spring in the city, as well as the Mill Colonnade and the Market Colonnade. The Park Colonnade in the nearby Dvořák Park is also easily accessible on foot from here. The historic old town, with its pedestrian zones and numerous cafés and restaurants, invites you to stroll and linger. The center of Karlovy Vary uniquely combines the historical spa tradition with an elegant and lively atmosphere. Many buildings date from the 18th and 19th centuries and give the city its characteristic appearance. Together with the thermal springs, the colonnades, and its location in the narrow Teplá valley, this mix makes Karlovy Vary one of the most famous spa towns in the Czech Republic.

Who is waiting there in the woods? The Sandman! 🪵🌙 This wonderfully carved wooden statue by the wayside is an absolute eye-catcher and a perfect photo opportunity on the Christkind-Runde. Especially when motivation wanes, familiar figures like this immediately reawaken the spirit of discovery in the kids. A wonderful little stopover to catch your breath! (And for us parents, the perfect opportunity to give the winking hint that after this great hike, everyone will definitely sleep well tonight 😉). Geprüft von @wanderfamilie.erzgebirge

An absolute natural highlight at the end of the route! The path leads over beautiful wooden boardwalks directly through the intact high moor – this is not only extremely idyllic, but also really educational for the little explorers. 🌿 Our most important logistics tip for families: The wooden boardwalks are not suitable for riding. Buggies, balance bikes, or children's bikes must be pushed on this section. But the slight rattling is well worth it for this great landscape! 🎒 Checked by @wanderfamilie.erzgebirge

The cozy "feeding place" on the Gottesgaber Christkindl Trail is a quaint meeting place for hikers. During a break, you can enjoy a small snack and a good Bohemian beer, even under cover in bad weather.
