Wigan Top Lock is no. 65 on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal system. If you are cycling to Wigan in the southwest and like locks, then there are another twenty locks for you to look at in the next 2 miles (3.2 km), as the canal drops 200 feet (61 m) between here and Wigan. This is a super beautiful area to cycle in with all the locks and canal boats.

(205 km) โ the longest in Britain! The Leeds & Liverpool Canal wasย built between 1770 and 1816 to connect the big industrial towns of Yorkshire and Lancashire to the port of Liverpool and America. It also connected to Hull and the North Sea via the Aire & Calder Navigation, and then to Europe and Africa.

Top lock amazed me how much it takes the narrow boats to get through. I can imagine it's a very hard thing to do, especially if you have 90 of them to pass
