Muddy madness
September 14, 2025, Buckminster Gliding Club

If you into war history the memorial at the gliding club is worth checking out, the Viking way itself is part of the 130 mile route which goes right upto the Humber estuary and this section hosts the Viking challenge each year in October when it’s usually very muddy

It’s absolutely trashed now. Rode in spring and it was rock solid ruts. In autumn it’ll be a quagmire . They’ve blocked 4x4 from using now but dirt bikes still plough it up

Park your bike between the rigs and head in for an all-day Full English. Not sure whether they do avocado on toast and single-origin cold brew coffee though.

St Michael’s is a tranquil church on the edge of Harston. The oldest part of the church is the West Tower, which dates to the 14th century. The nave, chancel and south chapel were all added in the late 19th century. Inside, you can view a 15th-century octagonal font, a 17th-century panelled pulpit and in the porch there is an interlace Saxon stone with cable border. St Michael’s is Grade II-listed.

Knipton is a charming village in the Vale of Belvoir. With beautiful yellow sandstone houses around the village centre, it truly is a picturesque place. Despite its fairly small population, the village boasts a thriving village shop and post office, a hairdressers, a village pub, a village hall, a Norman church, a cricket ground and a bowls club. It is a great place for a pit-stop when hiking in the area.

Don’t let the name fool you, although a truckstop this place makes the ideal stop on a long ride. Massive choice of good food hot and cold. Even get a beer if you want. Can lock bikes up round the back.
