The cemetery, which was established in 1825, was built where, according to tradition, the reformer Heinrich von Zütphen was executed in 1524 after being abducted from Meldorf and a mock trial. The old part of the cemetery is surrounded by a row of linden trees and is divided into four areas by two linden tree avenues. At the intersection of the avenues there is an obelisk as a memorial to Heinrich von Zütphen. Nearby there are older gravestones and a split boulder that is said to stand on the site of the pyre. In the south of the cemetery, next to a conspicuously grown weeping beech, is the grave of Theodor Griebel, an important politician from the time of the Prussian annexation of Schleswig-Holstein in 1866, who fought in vain for the independence of the duchy. https://www.echt-dithmarschen.de/typisch/poi/nordfriedhof-/-zuetphenfriedhof-heide
