April 15, 2025, Stone Bridge Over the River Idle, Eaton

The very old Stone Bridge over the river Idle just outside Eaton. A lovely place to stop and have a minute. There are walking trails along the river back to Ordsall. It's very picturesque and quiet at this spot.

The strange name reputedly originated when a woman baked a huge pie one Whitsunday for navvies digging the canal ..... however, recently discovered maps show a local field called Whitsunday Pie Field that pre-dates the canal.
