The old "donkey racecourse" route has been developed into a large park with several cycle paths around it. Good place to get used to mountain biking as it has some climbs and descents and a loose gravel surface. There is a hidden "mountain bike route" but it is best avoided as it is poorly maintained and badly designed.

Worth getting off the bike and taking time to walk along the lake to enjoy the peace and quiet! Hard to believe that there are busy shopping areas just beyond the tree line.

Arkwright Town to Inkersall Green Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Although it's a part of Route 67 and the TPT the section from Inkersall Green to Arkwright Town is unofficial but perfectly rideable, however parts of it could do with a bit of repair work and the entrance/exit from Sutton Lane is just a large gap in the fence as it's impossible to get through the actual gate

On the East Side of Holme Brook Valley Park there is a path that goes straight up the hill this is a great sprint to test fitness as it gets steeper the higher up you get. Just before you join the tarmac path there is a trail off to the right. This is apparently an MTB Trail. Having ridden it I would say avoid it. It has some potential but whoever built it didn't have the skills to create any flow and it is too short. Nice idea, shame about the execution.

There are several sections where the loch narrows and the towpath that you ride on becomes lesser. These section usually have a secondary route for bikes to ride on at the side

Watch out for cyclists and hikers coming thru the canal bridge, it’s very tight for 2 bikes to pass each other.

Walton Dam was built in the 18th century to provide a water supply for Walton Manor Corn Mill. The site was bought by Robinson’s in 1899, as a source of water for their cotton wool production. Later it provided an area for sporting and leisure activities for staff. Chesterfield Swimming Club also held events there.

Queen's Park was opened in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. In its early days, the Park was a popular venue for rallies and demonstrations. When the Derbyshire Miners' Associatiion held their rally here at the end of the 1890s it had a festive appeal with swingboats, roundabouts and coconut shies. The Park has been restored, with a café, lake and miniature railway, as well as playing facilities for younger visitors. There is also a bandstand - sit and listen to a local brass band playing on some Sunday afternoons during the summer.

Lovely old disused railway line, now a perfect Greenway linking Creswell and Clowne. This Greenway is around 5 miles on easy to cycle gravel path, continues on towards Poolsbrook and Staveley

This is getting very rutted on the steepest part around the 2 gates, be careful as it's being slowly washed away
