A small farm made a great spot to socialize with the local fauna: a family of sheep that was very keen to find out what we had hiding in our snack bags.

After a long stretch with no snacks, we were delighted to spot a lakeside Coop on the map—and shortly dissapointed to discover it was closed on Sundays. But at least the sign in the parking lot shared the history of Skillingsfors.

You can visit large parts of the fortress for free. Only the museum has an entrance fee. Worth a visit for the fortress and the view.

The fortress towers over the town of Kongsvinger and the river Glomma. The fortress was never besieged or conquered. Today there is a hotel in the barracks building.
