Right next to the magnificent Yttersand beach lies this absolutely worthwhile yellow wooden house with a green roof. A beautiful and well-maintained splash of color. Above is a small parking lot with a bus turning circle, immediately behind which is the entrance to Ytersandheia.

Great view over the village. It’s next to the road sign for Å as well.

Watch your tent - it might be blown away. It happens :-) Others call the beach Flakstad Beach - but... that is not correct as far as I know. The tiny village nearby though is indeed called Flakstad.

No - road continues. Don't worry! Picture shows the Flakstadveien direction east as you ride it going north on the EV1 on the Lofoten.

View over the Reinevatnet to the west - early morning with rising sun and rain. Again a beautiful rainbow, which made cycling in continuous rain a bit more bearable.

Probably the first beach eye-catcher when you approach the Lofoten from the south: Ramberg. After that, it's one after another. Ramberg is certainly worth a stop. The public toilets at the upper (northern) end of the beach, with an entrance fee of 30 NOK, are quite expensive. This is probably the system to keep campers away (who have to pee five times a night :-)).

Nappstraumtunnelen closed in both directions for pedestrians and cyclists in 2026 (as I assess the construction site, it could also be like this in 2027). A transport service is offered, which however can only take a very limited number (approx. 5 to 6 people) and transport their bicycles. The times are also tight: on the north route 10:00, 12:30, 16:30 and 18:00! This should be included in route planning. I met cyclists who went through anyway. Yes - it's possible, and as long as nothing happens... I wouldn't recommend it. Hitchhiking is another option. But consider that most are rental motorhomes, whose drivers rarely know how to transport a bicycle and therefore are unlikely to stop. Furthermore, they probably cannot take anyone along for insurance reasons either. This can be frustrating.
