Railway line 38 is a former Belgian railway line in the Land of Herve that runs from Chênée via Fléron, Battice, Herve, Aubel and Homburg to Plombières (Blieberg). The line was put into service in 1895. It was mainly used for coal transport from the mines in Vaux-sous-Chèvremont, Micheroux, Battice, Retinne, Xhawirs and Fléron, the Battice cattle market, the Aubel agricultural market and the Blieberg mine site. Both passenger and freight transport were stopped in 1957. The line remained open for military transport until 1989 and was dismantled in 1992. The vast majority of the line is in use as a RAVeL cycle and walking path.

From the panoramic "Drie Grenzen" Tower, a symbolic place located on the border of the Belgian village of Gemmenich and the cities of Vaals in the Netherlands and Aachen in Germany, you cycle from East to West through the Land of Herve. Line 38 is an old railway line and a pioneer of its kind.

The site of the former Plombières mine is home to species-rich calcareous grassland meadows, now protected as a nature reserve. The exceptional flora and fauna of this area are due to the heavy metal-rich soils, particularly the presence of zinc in the subsurface. Among the natural meadow relics, visible traces of the former metal industry can still be found: – Walls from former foundry floors – Remains of old smelting furnaces – Stones from former industrial buildings A small stream meandering through the area further enriches the ecological diversity of this special place. The "Gueule" viewpoint, which offers a glimpse into a cave opening, is particularly impressive and worth a visit.
