The Church of Our Lady was built in 1220. During the 13th century, it was further expanded in the Scheldt Gothic style, a Romanesque style with Gothic elements. Later, the church was further embellished, and a robust tower with a spire was added. Damme's golden age was reflected in the church's scale, which gradually began to take on the allure of a cathedral. Yet, decline had already set in before the final expansion work was completed. A nice stop with a history. The outdoor bar was once the spice warehouse of the fort that once stood there. There are also the remains of the old cod liver oil factory.
