This unpaved hiking and cycling path through the Langemeersen near Petegem-aan-de-Schelde is a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle. The quiet gravel path winds through the vast, damp hay meadows and offers ample space for sweeping views of the green landscape of the Flemish Ardennes. Here you can walk or cycle completely car-free, surrounded by pollarded willows, grasslands, and the typical tranquility of the Scheldt Valley. Especially during the golden hour, this is a particularly atmospheric passage. History is never far away either. The path runs right past the historic Abbey of Beaulieu, whose origins date back to the 13th century. The grounds were then known as Bello Loco — ‘beautiful place’ — a name that still perfectly suits this idyllic environment today. A section of the route where you should especially slow down, look around, and enjoy.

Maagdendale Abbey was founded in 1233 by Cistercian nuns and grew into one of the most important women's abbeys in Flanders. The place where a drop of beer was also offered.
