Once filled in to make way for the almighty car, the Lower Scheldt has today been restored to its former glory. Bridges and parks, cozy street cafés and a wonderfully restored Art Deco swimming pool form one of Ghent's most beautiful (new) little corners. A red-necked girl sits on a wooden structure in the water near the Van Eyck swimming pool. The locals have nicknamed her 'the Ghent Lorelei'. The girl with the headphones is a work by sculptor Johan Meirlaen, who used a small boat one night to place the sculpture on the wooden pier. In the early days, no one knew who the artist behind the work was, but Johan Meirlaen's red girl is now an integral part of Portus Ganda. Drop anchor at Portus Ganda, less than a kilometer from the city center. You will find all the necessary facilities in the magnificent Van Eyck swimming pools. Portus Ganda is the nautical gateway to the city of Ghent, located at the historic confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Leie near the city center. The port is designed as a transit port, which is why the water tourist (even in high season) has the best guarantee here of being able to go ashore directly from their boat. Portus Ganda comprises around 100 berths for a variety of motorboats. You are in the right place for a single overnight stay as well as for a whole holiday, a few places are reserved for longer stays.

Definitely recommended. Every now and then we encountered a jogger or walker, but it was negligible. It's so nice to be able to enjoy the beautiful nature this way.

The Church of Our Lady of the Snow in the East Flemish municipality of Destelbergen is dedicated to Mary. The title ter Sneeuw refers to a Marian apparition that is said to have occurred in the fourth century, during the pontificate of Pope Liberius, which is said to have caused snow to fall in August. In the 10th century, there is already a mention of a church building in Destelbergen. The current church from 1784 is the work of pastor Servranckx (1702-1792), religious of the Saint Peter's Abbey in Ghent. The church was consecrated in 1792 and has since been restored and adapted many times. It was last restored between 1993 and 1996.
