The Bütgenbach dam was built between 1929 and 1932. The main function of the dam is to regulate the course of the Warche river. This created the lake of Bütgenbach. It is a starting point for beautiful, popular hiking routes: for example, a 10-kilometer walk can be made around the lake.

Hiking along the Warche is highly recommended. Here you follow the winding Warche, which flows several meters lower. You yourself go up and down. Enjoy nature, but be careful and pay close attention to where you step. Roots!

Traditionally, the main church of an extensive parish was located in Bütgenbach, which also included the towns of Berg, Elsenborn, Faymonville, Nidrum, Sourbrodt and Weywertz. In these places were chapels that served as auxiliary churches. The parish church was built in the 12th century, and renovations took place until the 18th century. In 1931, a new church in neo-Romanesque style was built to a design by Heinrich Cunibert. The church tower, built to the right in front of the church, has seven sections and a rhombic roof.
