Sint-Ursmaruskapel – a hidden gem in Nokere At the crossroads of Kruishoutseweg and Anzegemsesteenweg stands the picturesque Sint-Ursmaruskapel, a charming field chapel that has been part of the landscape around Nokere for over a century. The chapel was erected in 1912 in honor of Saint Ursmarus, the patron saint of the parish of Nokere. The construction was financed by the noble castle residents Ruffo de Bonneval de la Fare and de Kerchove de Denterghem, with the support of local squire J.B. Van Glabeke. Next to the chapel, there is also an old, reused gravestone that commemorates these donors. Architecturally, this is also a special spot. The whitewashed brick chapel stands on a triangular plot, surrounded by a neatly trimmed hedge and characteristic pollarded poplars. Above the entrance, the text ‘H. Ursmarus B.V.O.’ – Heilige Ursmarus, Bid Voor Ons (Saint Ursmarus, Pray For Us) – is displayed. Anyone who peeks inside will discover a surprisingly colorful interior with a blue-painted coffered ceiling and an altar with a statue of Saint Ursmarus, traditionally depicted with a cow at his side. A small chapel with a big story — and an atmospheric stop during your discovery tour of Nokere

Flying over the cobblestones and seeing the finish line pass under your front wheel where many greats have gone before you doesn't affect you then you better stop cycling or go ride along the canal.

Even if you only pass through, the tranquility and grandeur still leave something behind. It also gives you a bit of energy that you will certainly need in Nokere.

Top climb through the forest. Definitely doable with a gravel bike too.

Small and well-maintained chapel on the opposite side of the lookout tower. Now that the tower renovation plans have apparently been shelved for good, the hill climb to the chapel is a nice alternative!

Due to breeding grounds, this protected area around the water is not accessible to the public. We can enjoy it from a distance!
