Kasteel Ter Borcht – where centuries of history come to life In the heart of Meulebeke lies Kasteel Ter Borcht, a moated estate with roots stretching back to the 13th century. Once, this was the seat of the main lordship of Meulebeke. For centuries, lords and noble families dictated the comings and goings of the region here. In 1655, the estate even received royal recognition: Philip IV elevated the lordship to a barony. Through the centuries, the castle also changed. Its medieval origins gave way to a stately 17th-century castle, which later acquired its elegant whitewashed neoclassical facades and baroque stepped gables. The two octagonal watchtowers at the entrance still seem to stand guard over this ancient domain. But the history of Ter Borcht does not end in the past. After centuries as a noble residence, the castle gained a surprising new chapter. Between 2016 and 2022, it was thoroughly restored and brought back to life. Today, the historic rooms are no longer silent witnesses but form the setting for exhibitions, weddings, tourist information, and culinary experiences. Much has also changed outside the castle walls. The old moat and castle motte are reminders of the medieval past, while the surrounding estate today offers space for walkers, athletes, and recreational users. From a medieval lordship to a contemporary meeting place: Ter Borcht has never left its past behind, but has given it a new purpose.

At this spot you are at an altitude of 150 meters. This location is therefore also called 'The roof of East Flanders'. Just enjoy the beautiful views from the roof of the mill. Or enjoy a highlight on the terrace. Both are possible too...

A nice place to stay. The terrace is very inviting for higher-level conversations. (You are 150 meters above sea level) The restaurant is highly recommended... The beautiful menu becomes a reality on your plate and will satisfy your taste buds. Wash it all down with a local beer or a fine wine. It doesn't have to be more than that...

The Sint-Pietersbrugje dates back to 1892. In 2019-2020, it underwent a very thorough restoration, during which it had to be dismantled and taken to the workshop, where it was carefully cleaned and sandblasted. Furthermore, some parts were replaced and manually riveted. The entire structure incorporates no fewer than 1,000 rivets. Finally, the bridge also received a protective coat of paint in striking Brunswick green, the original colour of the bridge. Source: vlaamsewaterweg.be
