The chapel was founded in 1639 in honor of Our Lady. The building was a popular place of pilgrimage for a long time, until it was sold to the public during the French Revolution and thus lost its religious function. In the following years, it housed a spinning and weaving school and a hospital for typhoid patients. In 1884 the chapel was reopened for worship. The chapel building has since been repaired and expanded several times.

The Kasselrijbeek rises in Heestert (Zwevegem) and flows into the Gaverbeek in Nieuwenhove-Waregem, near the E17. In the Middle Ages she was called the Fifta, and also gave her name to the village of Vichte. In a few places in Vichte (Kerkdreef and the connection between the Kerkdreef and the Beukenhofstraat the stream has been completely boxed in. The name Kasselrijbeek comes from the Kasselrijen Kortrijk and Oudenaarde between which the stream formed the border.

What if the idyll of the De Gavers nature reserve was brutally disrupted? This intervention emphasizes how images can mislead and presses on the value of our landscape. Illusion or reality? https://www.contreilive.be/nl/artwork/gaverstaete
