The most important monument in the hamlet of Massasco is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. In fact, its parish is ancient as it was mentioned, with the name of Navasco, in a diploma of 774 from Emperor Charlemagne in favor of the Abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio and in a subsequent document from 981 from Emperor Otto II of Saxony . Rectory dependent on the parish church of Santo Stefano del Ponte di Sestri Levante until 1413, it was later subjected to the plebeian community of Sant'Antonino in Castiglione Chiavarese in the diocese of Brugnato. Some documents from the 16th century attest to the dependence on the abbey of San Fruttuoso di Capodimonte (Camogli) and from 1483 the passage into the archdiocese of Genoa uniting its parish with the community of saints Rocco and Gaetano in Campegli. In 1959 the parish of Massasco, subject to the vicariate of Sestri Levante of the diocese of Brugnate, also passed into the current religious borders of the diocese of Chiavari.
