The Galmwald, surrounded by the communities of Gurmels, Ulmiz and Murten, forms one of the most beautiful and important contiguous forest complexes in the Seebezirk. It is unique because the forest, which is owned by the state of Fribourg, is a separate geographical municipality with no inhabitants; only the animal world lives here. In addition to the 300-year-old oaks and the sustainable use of the mixed deciduous forests, the Galmwald has a lot more to offer. For joggers, it is an ideal area for long forest runs; for barbecue fans, a cozy get-together by candlelight in the romantic Galmhütte; for nature lovers, a rich offering of flora and fauna. Church services are also held at the source of the Galmbrünnli. The diversity and beauty of the Galmwald can only be discovered and experienced on foot (driving prohibited).

Even if the metal Auriedsteg is such a sober construct, the kilometer-long view along the Saane, which forms the border between the cantons of Bern and Fribourg, is impressive. If you have the time and inclination and the necessary interest, you should not only follow the banks of the Saane, but definitely pay a visit to the nature reserve right next to the Auriedsteg bridge.

The Auried nature reserve is a small vibrant oasis of life. If you close your eyes and focus on listening, you will be surprised what a sonorous place the Auried is. If you keep your eyes open and don't just look into the distance, you will be surprised at how much life there is in the one square meter of earth you are standing on. If you're lucky, you can also see one or the other Scottish highland cattle, with their shaggy fur and wide-spreading horns, standing in the shallow water. A well-maintained schnitzel path leads through the Auried. But there are also wooden footbridge sections that lead the visitor across the water without getting their feet wet. There are observation posts everywhere that allow an intimate insight into the nature reserve.

Slightly elevated, from this point you can enjoy a fantastic view over the entire nature reserve. A large and informative information board shows which bird populations live here. If you are lucky, you will also discover one or the other Scottish highland cattle, which moves leisurely over the shallow water from one grassy hill to the next.
