Montseuc Summit Cross

Highlight • Summit

On an excellently marked path with an almost flat stretch, you first reach a magnificent viewpoint over the Cogne valley and Valnontey. From here, the climb, which has been easy so far, continues to the Montseuc ridge, with a much steeper and more strenuous route, but always well protected by wooden fences in the most exposed parts of the ridge. Along the way there are numerous information boards about the flora and fauna of the mountains.
At the top of the Montseuc mountain, there is the summit cross, a metal cross.

Uja di Bellavarda

Highlight • Summit

Uja di Bellavarda is one of the most visited and well-known peaks in the Val Grande di Lanzo and in the entire Lanzo valleys. To reach the peak, which rises to 2,345 metres, the terrain does not present any particular technical difficulties other than the difference in altitude to be overcome on a path which always climbs rather steeply. The descent is a lot of fun!

However, all the effort is rewarded by a unique view of Val Grande, the other peaks of the Lanzo valleys, the Gran Paradiso group and, in the distance, Monviso and the Maritime Alps chain. On the summit stands an imposing iron cross and the summit book.

I cannot recommend the path either up or down by bike, pure carrying. It is better to take the 1-hour detour by car to get directly to Rifugio Savoia. From there you can ride up comfortably. Otherwise, if you start from this side, go up via the tunnel instead of this path.

Hiking route to the refuges (Chabod or Vittorio Emanuele) then the route becomes mountaineering, with all that this entails: specific glacier equipment is required, special attention must be paid to weather and terrain conditions (glacier). It is best to be accompanied by a guide.

Magnificent (and only) traverse from North to South in Gran Paradiso National Park. From the end of Valsavaranche, near the village of Pont Breuil (and beautiful Rifugio Tetras Lyre), a steep mountain path (30-40%) starts from 1900m to 2350m and Croce dell' Arolley. The fastest way is to climb with the bike on your shoulder. After about 3.5 km of climbing, you reach a plateau where you can cycle reasonably well with a gravel bike (and luggage). MTBs with suspension can start earlier. After about 8.5 km you reach the Colle del Nivolet. Then a spectacular descent over more than 50 km.

Below the cross, in a pile of stones, there is a metal box with the "summit book". Easy to miss! Only the flap of the metal box is visible.

To enjoy the view, it is worth arriving before the crowds. In summer this is until 8 a.m.
