Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta (XIV century), Orta San Giulio On the top of the Motta hill ("hill", in Lombard) stands the church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in 1485 and rebuilt in the second half of the 18th century. The original late Romanesque structure was enriched by 17th and 18th century paintings by Rossetti, Cantalupi and Orgiazzi. In the Gemelli Chapel you can admire a painting by Procaccini depicting Saint Charles in the procession of the plague in Milan; it is one of the most important examples of the early 17th century in Lombardy. The façade is by Carlo Nigra and is preceded by a porch on twin seventeenth-century columns.
