Rifugio Antelao

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Located at 1796 meters, in the locality of Sella di Pradonego, the Antelao Refuge is a wonderful crossing point between the Cadore, which it overlooks as a natural balcony, and the Val Boite. It lies on a grassy saddle under the Crode di San Pietro, with a wide view of Cridola, Spalti di Toro, Monfalconi, and the southern ridge of the Central Marmarole. It is the starting point for the Alte Vie delle Dolomiti n. 4 and 5.

Owned by the CAI of Treviso, it was wanted and built by the writer and mountaineer Alma Bevilacqua (better known under the pseudonym of Giovanna Zangrandi) in 1948 to enhance a little-known area of the Dolomites, which she appreciated and loved during the partisan struggle.

Giaf Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Giaf refuge is located on a wooded plateau at the foot of the Coston di Giaf in the valley of the same name. The surroundings present a typically Dolomite landscape, with jagged peaks and bold towers with smooth, bare walls that contrast with the green of the woods located on the gentler slopes at their base.

In the past, there was a mountain hut in this place; the transformation works into a refuge began in 1938. Around the refuge there are fantastic routes for running, such as the Bianchi ring and the tour to the Marchi Granzotto bivouac.

We climbed up from Lake Antorno. A beautiful steep path, first through forests and then along a meadow landscape up to the hut. No shower, two toilets in the whole hut, a communal sink. Internet in front of the hut. A bit sparse in terms of sockets, but charging is free. The food was OK. The hut staff were very friendly. We had our camp right under the roof, very romantic 😂
