Montecarlo was founded in 1333 by the later Emperor Charles IV and named after him. It is located on a hill just 17 km from Lucca. There are no casinos or fast cars, but nice restaurants and a nice view of the plain

Special feature is the "Teatro dei rassicurati", a small opera house, which was restored in the 1970s and offers space for about 150 people.
