One of the few saints who are highly valued outside of Christianity is San Francesco, known in the German-speaking world as Franz von Assisi. Francis was born in 1181/82 in Assisi; he died as early as 1226. In his youth, as the son of wealthy parents, he was more of a bon vivant, later turning to Christ. In the half-ruined church of San Damiano, located outside the city walls of Assisi on the hillside, he prayed one day and heard the voice of Christ from the cross, urging him to "rebuild his church". Initially, he took this request literally and restored the church building; later, the realization matured within him that it was primarily about the Church as the community of believers. Francis became a role model for many people; they joined him, and the "Order of Friars Minor" (Ordo Fratrum Minorum) of Franz von Assisi was founded. Today, in the wide Franciscan family of orders, there are three male branches: the Franciscans, the Conventual Franciscans, and the Capuchins; as well as two female branches: the Franciscan Sisters and the Poor Clares. In addition, there is the "Third" or "Secular" Order, which can be joined by women and men who do not take the traditional monastic vows (poverty, chastity, and obedience) and continue to live in their families and professions.

I was there today. I didn't use the Komoot route, as it mostly led me along the main road. I followed the Alpine Club trail for large sections. It was a wonderful tour and a beautiful destination.
